Luis Arturo Valdez, PhD, MPH (They/Them/He/El)

Founder, GANAS Health Initiative

Assistant Professor, Community Health and Prevention

Drexel University

Dr. Luis Arturo Valdez is an expert in community health and prevention, specializing in addressing health disparities in underserved communities. As a researcher and educator, Dr. Valdez is passionate about creating culturally relevant, gender-responsive interventions, that carefully consider the social contexts and lived experiences of the communities they serve. Their work centers on understanding the intersection of gender, gender role strain, stress and health, with the goal of fostering healthier self-conceptualizations and expressions of masculinity toward improving overall well-being.

The GANAS Health Initiative was born out of Dr. Valdez's commitment to filling critical gaps in interventions by and for men of color. Central to GANAS is the integration of Indigenous perspectives, which guide its holistic approach to health and healing. Dr. Valdez's vision is to foster a space where folks can explore and embrace healthy masculinities, honor their heritage, and cultivate mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being. Their work seeks to elevate the voices and experiences of marginalized communities while promoting equity and collective empowerment.
